I was on H1B, recently got laid off (last week of February, 2009) --Since my wife is on H1B also, I changed my status to H4, which got approved a week back (3rd wk of April, 2009)...Now I've gotten to a point where I will soon be getting an offer from a company..
Can I start working, once they file for H4 to H1B transfer? or Does it have to be approved in order for me to start working?
It has to be approved before you can start to work. You can go with premium processing so its approved within a couple of weeks.

when me and my wife went for fingerprinting (in late 07 after that July fiasco), the person who finger printed my wife told her that she would get her green card in 6 months.. I didn't bother thinking about it since I knew that the dates were no longer current and knew his statement was not grounded. We've, off course, not received our green cards till now..
I think they just make a generic statement and they are unaware of retrogression, priority date, per country limits etc. He must have heard from somewhere that people get green cards 6 months after finger printing is done (which would be true in all cases that are not from India, China etc) and said it casually.
Now in your case, I'm not sure if his statement was based on anything really seen in the system or just a generic one.. I guess it's just a casual one..

As such there is no fix rule on who should get the visa and who shouldn't! It all depends on the Consular officer's Judjement of the case.
Can you list the documents that you sent and reason why the visa was denied?
Recently I sponsored my sister and her family to visit us in Summer of 2006. I had sent all the papers as required for applying for visitors visa. But the application was denied as consular was not satisfied.

That is the reason IO asked for the latest employment letter. I sent latest employment letter and three latest pay stubs and I think attorney might have attached a covering letter. There is a lot of confusion on this topic - not just on the forums but even among practicing immigration lawyers. Bottom line is there is no clear cut wording in any USCIS rule or memo regarding this particular situation so it's open to interpretation. If your attorney is conservative in interpretation s/he will say use of EAD for any job would void H1B. Others say as long as you do not use EAD for the primary Job for which you have the approved H1B its okay to use EAD for other jobs. My own lawyer is in the later camp - the camp which believes use of EAD for secondary jobs does not constitute violation of H1B terms as long as you continue to work for the H1B sponsoring employer for full time. He is immigration attorney for a very big and prominent high tech company.
Pick one lawyer who you are comfortable with and believe in and do as s/he says. Bad news is anything short of USCIS clarification/memo on this will not end this debate conclusively.

2) Is it possible to allow minimum RECURRING contributions like $10?
Ans: Seeing the need of assuring sure funding IV core team has decided minimum $50/- recurring option.When I am talking to my friends, we felt that the above things increase the
Contributions. We are also thinking that it is easy to ask friends to contribute if there are no limits on the contributions.
If I am correct there are more than 25,000 Members. If there are 10% of active members and each contribute $10 we get another $25000 that is required for the Bill.
My Contributions:
$50 Recurring Contributions from Nov 07.
Contributed $100 for the DC Rally.
$25 to the local Northern California Chapter in Oct 07.
Contributed to AILF $100 during the July visa bulletin time.

Am I reading this right because this certainly is more than the country limit. Also the total # of visa's given seem to be more than the annual limit. I thought there were some 250k visas that were lost, were the limits higher during these years?

In the similar boat.. I received sms/email on 13th that 485 has been approved but have not received any welcome/approval letter till date. I am on H1b. It has expired and I don't have Advance Parole also. I need to travel urgently in first week of June 2011. I was thinking of getting my H1b stamped during the trip, but since that's not possible what are my options???
I called my lawyers office but really didn't get any sound reply... seems like that lost interest once I told them I am not filing EAD/AP and GC is approved
Why don't you take an Info-Pass and check with an immigration officer? In case of GC approved but yet to be received at your end, there is a possibility that they can stamp your passport with temporary GC (I-551 i think) for urgent travel.

I'm very excited to say that I got my green card approved. Thank you for all of your support.
My status change will not change a bit of my support to IV. I will continue to contribute what I contribute now, until we are sucessful. I'm not successful, until everyone of you is not successful in pursuing your green card. I hope and pray that my stand will motivate non contributing friends to contribute.
Friends and folks, we did not have any organization to support ourselves. So far we had to take anything shoved upon us. But the emergence of IV changed all that. Contribute and support IV. Because IV is our voice!!!

I am pleasantly surprised and would like to thank Sen Menendez on behalf of all the IV members in his constituency for sponsoring visa recapture bill in Senate. Few days back when we called his office, his position was different. But because of we all calling and requesting for his support, he graciouly has agreed to take up our case. Speaking with his staff, I came to know that more than thousand calls were made to his office in support of the visa recapture bill.

Not workable if we don't have the number of real active members, which I think is a big problem. We have 40K userid's and only 1000 votes.... doesn't' make sense. Either these id's are fake, obsolete or created in error.

You never know where to put all these important documents safely. The best thing to do it maintain a copy on a separate location so that when it got stolen, you have copies to remember its details, etc.

Sorry for my late response. After thinking long and hard, I have actually taken ARRA for my health insurance. I have decided not to go for Unemplyment. I read about a specific case somewhere online where an applicant got a RFE on his 485 after applying for unemployement. I am not sure if RFE was because of unemployement, but on that forum a lot of people suspected that applying for umpl could be one of the reasons.
For me, I was really running out of options, without ARRA, health insurance would have costed me over $1500 so I went for it.

Also My visa in the name of company A. and i left the company moved to company B and then Company C. Now my H1 is with company C and its valid till 2011 November. Can i use the same Visa for reentry to US when i am coming back on May/June. Please give your answers ASAP.

For re-entering your left over time is sufficient, however if you ever want to travel out of US again you might need to go back to a consulate for visa issuance.
